TASK 3 COMPUTER GAME STORY DEVELOPMENT
INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US
This game involves emotional themes that both the player and the game would consist of such as happiness, perseverance,heroism and competitiveness.
The emotion ,happiness is felt by the player and the character in the game when they complete a level.The completion of the level is confirmed when the words 'Level Up' is shown on the screen.The confirmation is followed by the protagonist saying a catch phrase that relates to their character. For example, The Green Lantern would say '' once a green lantern,always a green lantern'' when a level is successfully completed.
Heroism is another emotion instilled as the whole entire game is based on fictional hero characters. The heroism theme of this game is similar to the heroic themes in movies and other typical storylines where the conflict between 'heroes vs villians'' or ''good vs evil'' is the main topic. However the 'villiains' in the game Injustice are actually the alter-ego of other superheroes.The superheroes in the game are also the villians representing evil, this is because the game is set in a parallel universe where superheroes can be a representation of evil.The player,when assuming the role of the protagonist would always be representing the 'Good' side.
Another emotional theme the game instills is competitiveness. The game provides the option of a second player to participate and compete in. The level of competitiveness varies on the level of the game and the opposing opponent. Even if the player is playing the game alone, they are still able to experience the competitiveness, as the challenges of Injustice requires the participation of ranked matches whereby their status in the game is dependable on how well they play in the matches. One may be demoted or promoted according to their rank that follows the game's ranking system.
In terms of the Interactive Elements of Injustice, it lacks Character Customisation, Player Control,Triggered Events, and a Emergent Narrative. The only interactive element that the game is themed upon is the Embedded Narrative whereby the narrative of the game is fixed and structured without any possibility of an unexpected change such as an emergent narrative to exist. This is due to the game's narrative being adapted from the story line of a comic book,cartoon,films and TV shows. Having a game based upon an existing and popular form of story leaves little chances to change the elements of the game.
Sims
The game, Sims is a game that evolves around emotions. Its entire theme is on emotions that are distinctively distinguishable in the game . The characters in the game have the ability to feel and express their own emotions and moods by their facial expressions and actions. Feelings of happiness,sadness,anger, disappointment,and hopefulness are emotional elements that make up the subject of the game. The player creates their protagonist and play out their life in the Sims world. The player can look after its character from as young as a baby till it is an elderly and must pass away. The ability to be apart of the characters whole life while it 'grows up' creates a one-sided emotional attachment between the player and their character. The game is known to be 'life-like'. The characters relationships,personality,appearance and aspirations are customisable which make the game possess the interactive element of character customisation, player control, and emergent narrative. An emergent narrative is when the story narrative of a game is unexpected, due to the player having sole control of its character, the story narrative is entirely dependant on them. The story narrative is not fixed.
