Computer Gaming

Having come from a family of computer gaming addicts, I on the other hand did not inherit the love bug for it.
Trust me, there's more where that came from.

The only game I ever played online was Chess. Which I started traditionally from an old dusty chess board that came complete with its own matching stained pieces my dad picked up from a charity shop. It was the first board game I had ever played.

Now, not only did I learn the game, play it like a champion, think of it before and after I went to sleep and waited for school to end so I could rush home to it ,but I also joined my school's club for it.I was a member of the Chess Club. A very proud one in fact, as I was only eight years old at the time and I used to beat all the boys, and as far as I could remember I was one of the very few girls who joined !

However, playing it online became a whole different game to me. My dad signed me up onto this online chess gaming website where you could play against people from all over the world and say more than just 'check-mate' to them in the chat box.
I was sold! To be able to play different people other than my fellow defeated opponents and of better and more advanced skills than I ,was my then version of getting invited to a little girls tea party .

After a few days of disappointment and annoyance, I hated it.I found it restricting as your opponent could decide to end the game by clicking the 'switch opponents' button.Which I later on found out kept happening to me was because I was ''too easy'' and played ''like a girl'', according to one of my opponents who soon had to rush off to his synagogue.
The majority of the players of the website were adults and assumed male. I had no place to be there as I was under aged(but supervised by my dad,of course!).
Nonetheless I still played it but only in hope that maybe someone would play the game from start to check-mate with me.
I soon lost interest, picked up a new hobby and changed clubs. It's been more than five years since I last picked up a pawn. The game had lost its appeal to me as playing it online had only left me discouraged and bored.

For those of you who have never played chess online (or even knew you could ! ), here's a short video on how it works .

The Show Must Go On
