TASK 1 Magazine Advert

There are three main genres when it comes to magazine classifications; Specialists, Lifestyle and Celebrity Gossip. These classifications are dependent on the audience's preferences. 

The Specialist genre focuses on specific topics such as travel, food, beauty, fashion, music, listings, games, t.v, films,technology,plants,home,d.i.y,knitting,sewing,crafts,art,wedding and motoring. 

Celebrity magazines such as 'Closer' contains content entirely based upon celebrities in the media and fashion industry . Like many gossip magazines, it includes many gossip and assumptions about the lifestyle of celebrities.Many articles are over-exaggerated and false. Photographs are often negatively photoshopped excessively.
Generally Celebrity Gossip magazines are targeted at females in their teens up to their mature years of 30.They are often interested in celebrities and models in the media industry such as actors , actresses, singers, dancers, billionaires. Popular celebrities that are often featured in these specialist genre magazines are Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Jennifer Lawrence, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and many more. Fans of these celebrities are often expected to purchase these magazines, purely to satisfy their own knowledge about their favourite celebrity .
Celebrity gossip type of magazines are always brightly coloured with neon orange,yellow,green,blue,pink and red to attract their audience and make the articles seem more appealing.
In terms of the text within the magazines, language is simple and easily understood. Paragraphs are kept short and straightforward as majority of the content is only stating opinions about a certain celebrity's weight,marriage, love-life, or clothes. A few quotes from '' sources'' are often mentioned which makes statements questionable in terms of their factuality.
 Another aspect of celebrity gossip magazines that makes it often untruthful are the pictures. It has been proved that all pictures in magazines have been photoshopped to satisfy the story it will be based upon. Celebrities are often criticized for their weight, be it them gaining or loosing weight excessively  .Photographs of them are exaggerated to make them look undesirably horrible and shocking. This is done to attract the target audience and in turn aid the magazine in earning more money.
Celebrity gossip magazines are solely picture based as in their pages are covered with celebrities quotes, rumors, gossip and pictures. Page layouts are extremely messy and unorganised. Spacing in celebrity gossip magazine pages are limited as texts are also written over pictures.
In general the context of celebrity magazines are often negative.Images and photographs of them are portrayed negatively while articles about them are rapaciously critical.

Besides celebrity gossip magazines falling under the specialist genre of magazines, another genre of magazines are also available.Lifestyle magazines are just as popular as specialist. Topics range from healthy eating,healthy recipes,celebrity opinions, fashion trends, exercise routines,tips on achieving a positive lifestyle and routine are all inclusive of a lifestyle magazine. Articles such as '' 10 ways to be happy'' and ''life lessons for father and sons'' are the type of topics covered in lifestyle magazines. 

Pictures,unlike celebrity gossip magazines are shown in a positive light such as celebrities in good shape,eating healthily, or even spending time with their family.  .Food are shown in great presentation and under bright light. Text is descriptive and sometime instructional depending on the article topic. For example exercise routines are shown step by step to make readers follow it in ease. The targeted audience varies from ages 20 to 50 years old.Lifestyle magazines are suitable for both the male and female gender depending on the magazine. The magazine shown above, SHARP is an example of a men's lifestlye magazine. Celebrities are included in lifestyle magazines however articles are not hypercritical and false but instead written in admiration and adoration for the celebrity. Articles are also true and reliable due to the article written on the basis of the writer interviewing the celebrity. Contrary to celebrity gossip magazines, celebrities featured in lifestyle magazines are illustrated positively in a mature and respectable manner.

In comparison, celebrity gossip magazines and lifesyle magazines are entirely disparate in all factors of magazine elements such as general interest,target audience,writing,use of images and design layout. Celebrity gossip magazines only write about celebrities and nothing else.Lifestyle magazines, on the other hand cover a wide range of topics, including celebrities but, however, articles are honest and not opinionated .
