TASK 2 : Music Video Pre-productions Techniques



Task 2 :

MUSIC VIDEO CONVENTIONS, TECHNIQUES AND STYLES
         



Briefly define the following conventions of music video in your words and the effect they may have on the audience.


Lyric interpretation: 

-Music video coincides with the songs lyrics 


Extending or consolidating song’s meaning:

-Presenting the lyrics to the song ,while also adding another meaning that lyrics has not mentioned.



Focus on performer: 

-Music video evolves around the artist


Lighting for mood: 

-Bright lighting portrays a positive mood. 

-Dark lighting portrays a negative, glum mood



Pace of cuts

-The pace of which cuts match the beat to the song, is applied to set the mood of the song.

Fast,Quick,Sharper cuts portrays an active mood.

Slow,Fades portray a slow, mellow mood.

Narrative : 

A music video that has a narrative style is often based upon a story.

An example is Taylor Swift - Mine



Impressionist:

A music video that is filmed upon a impressionistic style bases its entire video around mood and atmosphere. 
An example is Lana Del Rey- Young and Beautiful




 Interpretive : 

A Interpretive music video directly interprets the lyrics of the song.

    

Surrealist:

A  music video that is a surrealist often contains content is unconnected with the song and bizarre imagery.

Such as Lady Gaga- Applause 

Pastiche/Homage:

A video that provides a positive copy or tribute to another artist's work or media,product and TV programme. 

An example is : Snow Patrol-Called Out into the dark




Parody:

A video that mocks an artist or his work or another media genre.
